NEUROTOXINS
Smooth, soften, and prevent for timeless, natural-looking skin.
Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® are prescription neuromodulators. A provider injects them into specific facial muscles to temporarily soften the movement that creates frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet.
At Citrus Aesthetics in Mission Valley, Botox in San Diego starts with a consultation with Jessica Cvetic, PA-C, BS, MPAS, who founded the practice and treats patients with neuromodulators.

ABOUT NEUROTOXINS
What neuromodulators are used for
Neuromodulators work on lines that form when you move your face: the vertical lines between the brows (often called the 11s), the horizontal lines across the forehead, and crow's feet at the corners of the eyes. Squinting, frowning and raising your brows fold the skin in the same places again and again.
Lines that show when your face is completely still are a different case. A neuromodulator may not be the right tool for those, and we'll tell you if another treatment fits better. Our treatments page lists the options.
Botox, Dysport or Xeomin: how a provider chooses
All three are neuromodulators, and each is its own product with its own label, not another name for the same thing. We explain how they differ, recommend one for your goals, and tell you why.
What happens at a neuromodulator appointment
Conversation. We talk through what bothers you, what you've had done before, your health history, and every medication and supplement you take. Tell us how much movement you want to keep. That answer shapes the plan.
Plan. Your provider looks at how your face moves, chooses the areas and the product, and explains why. If a neuromodulator isn't the right fit, you hear that here.
Injections. A fine needle places small amounts of medication into the chosen muscles. We tell you what's happening before each step, and you can ask questions at any point.
Before you leave. You get instructions for the next few days and a list of what to watch for.
The injections are a small part of the visit. Most of it is the conversation and the plan.
When you'll see results and how long they last
Nothing changes the day of your appointment. The effect builds over several days and then fades gradually, which is why treatment is repeated over time. Onset and length depend on the area, the dose and you, so your provider gives you a range at your consultation.
FAQs
-
The price of Botox in San Diego depends on which product you receive, how many areas you treat, how much medication your muscles need, and what we find at your exam. Quotes can be set per unit or per area, so ask what a number covers before you compare it with another one. You get a quote at your consultation. Our payment plans page covers financing.

Most clients describe the sensation as a tiny pinch. The needle used is quite small, goes in smoothly, and the neurotoxin is injected quickly, resulting in minimal pain. Numbing agents are not typically used for this treatment.
-
How much movement you keep depends on where the medication goes and how much is used. You and your provider settle that before the first injection, so say plainly what you want to keep, such as a lifted brow or a visible smile line. Results vary, and an outcome can differ from the plan. Our post on spotting and avoiding overtreatment goes into more detail: When Less Is More in Aesthetics.
-
Expect redness, swelling or bruising where the injections went in. How much you change your day depends on how your skin responds and what we advise, and you get instructions before you leave.
-
Duration depends on the area, the dose and you. Your provider gives you a range at your consultation.
-
It depends on which areas you treat, how strong your facial muscles are, and how deep your lines are. We recommend an amount after looking at how your face moves.
-
No treatment is risk free. All three are prescription medications with known side effects and a boxed warning, listed in the section above. You and your provider decide if the benefits outweigh the risks for you, after a review of your health history.
-
You get instructions that fit your treatment, at your consultation and again before you leave. Tell your provider about all medications and supplements, and follow their instructions.
